Gravesham is incredibly well connected. If you’re planning a visit or longer stay, it couldn’t be easier with fast connections by road and rail from London and the wider south east of England with half hourly connections to and from the capital by boat.

If you have more time, there’s more leisurely ways to arrive and depart with a selection of long-distance walking routes and cycle routes to choose from. How you get up here is up to you. The welcome will be the same.

By Road

Gravesend is clearly signposted from the national motorway network – the M2, M20 and M25 – and hence to all destinations in Kent and south east England, including UK airports at London Heathrow, London Gatwick and London Stansted.

The A2/M2 provides excellent road communications into Central London, to Canterbury (40 minutes), the Channel Tunnel, Kent Ports and Kent Coast (1 hour) and to the East of England and the North via the QEII Bridge/Dartford Crossing.

For Gravesend Town Centre from the M25, take junction 2 (A2) towards Canterbury. From the A2 take the A227 turn off and head towards Gravesend. The A227 (Wrotham Road) takes you directly into the Town Centre.

By road Gravesend is about an hour from central London and is signposted from the A2 and is only 4 miles from M25 junction 2.

You can park in one of the council's car parks. Or alternatively, you can park at the St George’s Shopping Centre or Thamesgate Shopping Centre.

By Rail

High speed Southeastern Trains services provide fast and convenient access into London St Pancras from Ebbsfleet Station (17 minutes) and from Gravesend Rail Station (24 minutes). High speed Southeastern trains also ensure convenient access to and from other Kent visitor destinations.

Other mainline rail connections run from Higham, Gravesend and Northfleet into London Charing Cross; from Sole Street and Meopham into London Victoria and also from these stations to Rochester and to the east of Kent via the Stood Tunnel.

It is easy to plan your train journey using Southeastern's live departure boards or journey planner.

By Bus

Frequent local services to most nearby towns are run by Arriva Bus Services and
Fastrack buses provide fast and frequent services at 10 minute intervals between Gravesend Town Centre, Ebbsfleet Station, Bluewater Darenth Valley Hospital and Dartford Town Centre.

Walking and Cycling

Begin or end your journey on foot at Gravesend on two national long distance walks.

The Wealdway starts from Town Pier, Gravesend and finishes in Eastbourne, East Sussex. A 129 kilometre (80 mile) route.

Walk the Saxon Shore Way starting at the Town Pier, Gravesend, and follow the ancient coastline of Kent for 230 kilometres (134 miles) following the bank of the River Thames and finishing in Rye, East Sussex. The route is also ideal for cycling, horse riding and enjoying days out in the county.
